Random Generator / presented.json
I wanted to solve the mystery of duplicated students selections on the random generator, so I quickly reviewed the script used for random reviews and all seems to be in order. I executed it locally many times and I didn't get duplicated results.
Then, I opened the presented.json
file and searched 'Jorge Roig', which is the name of a student who presented his work on Feb/16. His name is not in that file. I checked the recording of that day (https://vimeo.com/678487149), and in fact Jorge presented his work at minute 04:53. I continued watching the class video and the next student selected by the random generator was sonam-deki (15:49)... This time I found her name in the presented.json
file, but in a different date (2022-02-23 instead of 2022-02-16). Then I went to that date video (56:10, https://vimeo.com/681665168) and she was surprised because she was selected again. It seems that this was the first case of duplicated reviews.
Finally, I opened the presented.json
file one more time and if searched the occurrences of '2022-02-16' and I couldn't find anything. It seems that this file wasn't updated with that day reviews and for that reason the random generator picks those names in future classes. One possibility is that the random generator was executed on a different computer that day and the presented.json wasn't pushed to the remote repository.
TL;DR Lines corresponding to the Feb/16 Class are missing in the presented.json
file, so those students names are selected by the random generator. However, I'm not sure if this also occurred in other dates.
