Important Information About Computer-Controlled Cutting Week that You Need to Know Beforehand
Hello FabAcademy Students
Please note that:
- The global class for the computer-controlled cutting week is on 10 Feb: Check from here!
- The local class will be held in 2 parts:
-
Part 1: Thursday 11 Feb 2021 09:00 - 11:00 (Finland Time)
- We will explore how to work with vinyl cutter and two small laser cutters that we have in the Fab Lab.
-
Part 2: Friday 12 Feb 2021 13:00 - 16:00 (Finland Time)
- You will learn how to work with the big laser cutter. We will do the group work >> Testing: kerf, joint clearance, vector, raster, speed, power, frequency, DPI, focus, etc.
-
Part 1: Thursday 11 Feb 2021 09:00 - 11:00 (Finland Time)
- The global class is obligatory to participate.
- The local class is highly recommended to participate, unless if you have a good reason for not to. Because, we will do the group work during the local class!
- Doing the group work is obligatory for passing the week as well as for learning and understanding how to proceed with your individual tasks.
- You can consider doing the group work yourselves if you cannot participate the local classes; but it is highly recommended to participate. Let me know in advance if you cannot participate the local classes. I will share with you the files that you need for the group work.
- Class mode will be face-to-face in the Fab Lab.
- For the remote students, we connect via zoom and we, anyways, record the sessions in case that they cannot participate the class and want to do it themselves. Check the schedule and zoom links from here! Please note that, for some weeks, the schedule might have not been updated by the instructors yet, so don’t get confused. Now, the only thing that I am asking you is to check for the Computer-controlled cutting week’s schedule and zoom links from this page and to put the dates into your calendar.
- Jari and Hannu can skip the local class in case that they have already completed this week including the group work.
- You need to ideally complete this week’s tasks and documentation till Wednesday 17 Feb before the next global lecture. So, I have reserved all of the slots on 15th, 16th and 17th Feb for you; check from here! You need to decide from now which slots fit your schedule, then replace your name with my name. You can consider also changing the type of the machine. Reserve at least two 1Hour slots for working with each machine if you don’t have any prior experience with those. If you already are experienced, then you know how much time you might need.
- After reading the COVID-19 safety instructions in the reservation system and how it works nowadays and how Fab Lab access could be limited/restricted, consider reserving for the other days and weeks (you just need to type your name and choose a machine to work with in front of your desired slot of time).
- I will post issue again if something important comes to my mind that you might need to know before the start of the class.
Please feel free to ask if something is unclear.
I am looking forward to seeing you all
BR,
Behnaz
