Using Git on different partitions of the same machine
On my lap top, I have Windows 10 Home Edition. I cloned my academy repository on my documents on windows. In order to install frecad and use linux more freely, I partitioned the hard drive to run Ubuntu 18.04 in a dual boot system. The windows file system is visible and editable from the ubuntu environment. Do I have to clone my repo on the ubuntu partition, or can I use Git on the windows folder from Ubuntu? I've researched online, but I've found some conflicting versions. Some posts sasy to clone the repo on the new partition, but to do that would I need an SSH key? Copying the ssh key from windows would also be an option, but not sure if that is best practice as there are some others that say SSH keys should not be moved. Another question is, is it safe to use git from linux on the windows partition. Since the folder containing the local repository on the windows partition is visible in Ubuntu, I figure I can use git directly there from ubuntu, but I've also seen some posts where this brings problems because of the different file systems and git instalations. Can someone recomend a best practice? In the end, I'll be working on my assignments from both windows and ubuntu, but I feel that avoiding having to boot from one to the other would be be best practice.
Many thanks all.
Rodrigo.
