need to shrink my repo. is there a recommended procedure/tutorial availablereducing repo sizes. the instructions i have seen seem confusing to me.

I am stashing copies of my local repo on USB thumb drives. I have been reading about different methods for reducing repo size. Here is a link I am reading:

https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/project/repository/reducing_the_repo_size_using_git.html

It talks about filter-branch and also BFG. Here is my situation. My repo reports 320MB. My thumb drive says 234MB. I sm going to guess that my repo has some unwanted blobs in it? I'm not sure I am using the correct term here. Some direction would be most appreciated. Thank you.
