Facts about COVID19 I gathered (between yesterday and today)
Facts I have been gathering:
- the Covid19's size is apparently 200 nanometers more or less.
- current masks (FFP3 or N95 protects people at 99.5%). N95 masks filter particles up to 300nm.
- some peoples are proposing blue ray diode of 405nm to expose the masks to a laser-light that can kill DNA and RNA (from Mejdi Nciri fromer Fab Academy students: http://impact-photonics.com/projects.php).
- some people are suggesting using ultrasound to kill the virus
- some people are suggesting using microwave to kill the virus (not FDA approved)
- Some people proposed to 3D print masks: most plastics for FFF 3D printing are not suitable for contact with the skin, the printing is time-consuming,etc.
- some people are duplicating commercial valves for respirators (for free), are solving real issues doing so in an italian hospital, and are threatened to go to trial for doing it: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20200317/04381644114/volunteers-3d-print-unobtainable-11000-valve-1-to-keep-covid-19-patients-alive-original-manufacturer-threatens-to-sue.shtml
- some governments are in touch with fabbers/makers communities to assess how to connect them with medical experts
- some people want to do something but lack the technical expertise.
- some people with technical skills want to do something but don't have the connections or network to work with.
- many people are starting to think that a mask that is not certified is still better than nothing (this has to be discussed). Some researchers at Cambridge University has been investigating on this: https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/ (from Anastasia Pistofidou)
- JOGL is a very good platform where good people gather: https://app.jogl.io/projects
And a lot more.
Please correct me if you find out some of the infos above are wrong by arguing and pointing toward reliable ressources.
