 ### Metamorphocin

-Metamorphocin investigates how to cohabitate and create with other organisms in slow and gentle ways, specifically the Bombyx mori silkworm. It explores alternative methods to make products from sericulture while allowing for the metamorphosis of the silk moth. The broken cocoon, considered a damaged and less valuable material, is transformed into garments and accessories through a mix of modern and traditional processes. The underlaying goal is to prepare for a farm-to-fashion model studio to create locally and meaningfully with silkworms, sheep and natural dye plants.

 ## **Moodboard**

-I chose these three images as moodboard photos because they represent important pillars of this project. First the silkworm spinning to emphasize the species that makes it all possible. I will be observing and listening to Bombyx mori in order to make the best design and cohabitation decisions. I am also fascinated in how we can learn from the species design tendencies, rather than solely viewing it as a resource to be extracted. Second the Ouroboros representing the cyclical nature of all things, especially with the butterfly ~ or moth :) in the center, I am reminded of the lifecycle of the species and its metamorphosis. This incredible biological process has long been a metaphor for a great rebirth. Parallel to the three phases of enlightenment, the larvae starts terrestrial bound, then enters a period of dwelling meditation to emerge in the final phase free and transformed. Lastly, the microscopic image reminds me of how science and technology can be used to aid art and design. A large focus of this project will be further equipping myself (coming from an arts background) with scientific tools and methods to achieve sustainable and meaningful work.
