Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income
This week's assignment is easy! You need to do only two things:
- Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
- Prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your root directory.
During the lecture
While attending Neil's lecture, keep those questions in mind.
Intellectual Property:
- What are the differences between patent and copyright?
- When (In what occasions) can you get actual benefits by getting a patent?
- For what kind of work can you license with the Creative Commons License? Can you apply Creative Commons License to software code?
Income:
- What could be the motivations for starting business? Financial motivation, of course, but what else could be?
- What could be the models to make income if you start a business? Selling as a product is an obvious model but what else could be?
Dissemination plan
Dissemination plan should include consideration of business potential and licensing for your project. You should write also the reasons of your choices (e.g., Why do you choose to commercialise /not commercialise it? Why do you use this license?). You could check this document and write your dissemination plan following the guiding questions. Check also the previous years' students' pages to see how the dissemination plan is structured and what are included.
The slide and the video
Create a draft of the slide and the video of your final project. You could include your name, lab name, title of the project, short descriptions, images (videos), process you intend to use etc. This is a practice, so you don't need to make the perfect one yet. You will replace these later with the actual versions when your final project is ready. You can use placeholders where you don't have photos/videos. Pay attention to the specifications of file names, locations and dimensions / size.
