After a few weeks of testing we're going to try an experiment and switch from Bluejeans to Zoom. This is due to a combination of glitches we've been having with Bluejeans, and an opportunity to increase capacity with Zoom. The new meeting can handle 500 connections, which is enough for anyone who needs to connect, with these notes:
- Don't individually connect from a lab, do that together -- that otherwise leads to issues in feedback, and bandwidth, and attention
- Don't share the connection information beyond students and instructors -- anyone else interested can follow along in the videos posted
- Test your connection before class, to make sure you know how to mute and unmute, and don't have feedback
- If the number of connections exceeds the number of people we'll reset the access info
With those notes, the class meeting info is:
- meeting ID: 198 434 642, password: 1234
- can connect via browser: http://fab.academany.org/2019/video.html
- or: https://zoom.us/j/198434642
- or app: https://zoom.us/download
- or phone: +1 (669) 900-6833
The desktop app is recommended, it has more controls over the view, and has good cross-platform support.
That's always running for testing. And we'll do a pre-prep meeting 8:00A EST Wednesday, to stress-test. That will be followed by the weekly staff prep at 8:30 before class at 9:00.
Note also that Bluejeans is still running for the other meetings; if this trial goes well we'll migrate those.
On the other hand, if any issues come up tomorrow we're revert to Bluejeans.
